Updates on Scholarship

Dear Readers,

The AMMA Foundation Scholarship Awards programme forms an integral part of AMMA Foundation’s (Foundation) principal objective to assist talented and deserving Malaysians students who are financially challenged, pursue their studies at approved institutions of higher learning in Malaysia.

The Scholarship programme was developed to encourage and assist eligible candidates who do not have adequate resources, to pursue diploma/undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications at a recognised university/college. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of both merit and need and will also have to meet the specific eligibility criteria and requirements for the relevant scholarships offered by the Foundation from time to time. Successful Applicants will be invited for an interview with the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee. 

The Foundation’s objectives in awarding the scholarships are to:

  • develop and enhance the potential of deserving children and adults to complete tertiary/post graduate education to become active members of the nation’s economy who contribute positively as global citizens

  • help graduate and postgraduate students of potential and calibre to become part of Malaysia’s  talent pipeline

Scholarship Awards Selection Criteria: The selection criteria will be based on financial need and academic performance. To ensure that the most deserving students are selected for the scholarship awards, the following attributes will be considered:

  • Academic performance

  • Financial standing of family - must have proof of financial need.

  • Character of candidate;

  • Extra-curricular activities

  • Leadership qualities

Are you eligible?

i)             a. You are a Malaysian citizen

ii)            b. You have an outstanding academic record and achieved excellent results in your SPM/STPM/Diploma or equivalent;

iii)           c. You are currently pursuing or planning to pursue your first year diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate programme at any college or university recognised by the Foundation or listed in the specific scholarship;

iv)           d. If you are not already pursuing your chosen diploma/undergraduate/postgraduate programme, you have obtained admission or a conditional offer to pursue the undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at the university/college of your choice;

PRE-REQUISITE :

Students/Applicants must show proof of acceptance from Universities/ Institutions of Higher Learning in Malaysia to be eligible.

1. VD Nair Scholarship

AMMA Foundation (AF) would like to announce the continuance of the AMMA Foundation-V. D. Nair Scholarship Programme for 2018. The Scholarship is in the form of full cash grant available to Malaysian citizens wishing to pursue or are already pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate Degree courses in any public or private institutions of higher education in Malaysia or recognised institutions overseas. The V.D. Nair Scholarship is an educational scholarship programme established, administered and operated by AMMA Foundation.

The Scholarship will only be for Malaysian citizens to pursue, or who are already pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate Degree courses in any public or private institutions of higher education in Malaysia. Preference will be given to Students from a plantation industry background and pursuing agricultural science, bioscience or agribusiness courses.

COURSES FUNDED INCLUDE :

Agricultural Science (Plantation Management)
Biotechnology
Biochemistry
Microbiology
Molecular Biology
Bio-industry Science
Environment Technology

(*) applicable to both Undergraduate & Postgraduate Studies

DETAILS

  • The Scholarship is awarded annually to successful applicants

  • Applicants will be assessed on the basis of both merit and need and will also have to meet the specific eligibility criteria and requirements.

  • A total fund of RM 30,000 is available for disbursement for the year 2018

  • Scholarships are limited to a maximum of RM 10,000 per applicant per year

  • Successful candidates are eligible to qualify for up to a total maximum sum of RM 30,000 per applicant through the entire duration of their course. However, this is not an automatic qualification and the candidate will be assessed periodically and must continue to satisfy the Committee in meeting strict criteria and requirements.  

PROCEDURES

A Scholarship Committee of the Board will review and consider all applications received and if eligible, interview the selected candidates prior to awarding the scholarship. Applicants will be assessed on both merit and need and will also have to meet the specific eligibility criteria and requirements.

     a. Eligibility Requirements :


(i) Malaysian citizens
(ii) Full-time Diploma/Degree course
(iii) Local & Foreign Universities and Colleges only
(iv) Priority will be given to academically deserving applicants who have a total household income of RM 60,000/- or less, per annum
(v) 
Successful candidates will be required to attend an interview with the Scholarship committee which will include a written essay on the spot within 45 minutes on a general topic (to be provided at the interview)
(vi) The sponsorship covers any one or more of the following :

-          Full tuition and academic fees

-          Living allowance

-          Book and equipment allowance

-          Computer allowance (one-off)

      b. Pre-Requisite

The Students/Applicants must have gained admission to a recognised institute of higher learning (to show proof of acceptance) in order for the application to be considered

Application Process:

The Scholarship Application Forms can be downloaded online and must be furnished with copies of all the relevant documents. Only fully completed Application Forms with all the relevant supporting documents will be considered.

  • Only selected candidates who fulfil the requirements of the Scholarship committee will be called for an interview on a date to be fixed.

2. Taylors University

AMMA Foundation is proud to announce the extension of the “AMMA Foundation-Taylors University Scholarship” programme.

The proposed scholarship aims to serve the following objectives:

•       To provide education opportunities for needy high achieving Malaysians.

•       To create awareness amongst the needy community in Malaysia on education   

          options and opportunities at Taylor’s University.

 

Mode of Scholarship – Full fee waiver

3. Lakshni Nara Menon 

AMMA Foundation (AF) is extremely honoured to announce a collaboration between Lakshimi Nara Menon Educational Trust (LNMET) and AF. AF will administer and implement the Lakshmi Nara Menon Educational Trust Study Scholarship Programme  .

Lakshmi Nara Menon Educational Trust was incorporated on 17th February 2011 with its registered office at 21D Jalan Jambu Gajus, 41100, Klang, Selangor. LNMET is a charitable trust set up by the late Narayanan Menon in memory of his mother Poroor Lakshmikutty Ammah. The Trust is involved in providing donations of a charitable nature which shall be “used for payment of school fees or hostel accommodation or uniforms or books of poor destitute children of Indian labourers of Tamil, Malayalee and Telegu origin”.

Funding  

Lakshmi Nara Menon Educational Trust will provide the financial assistance for the programmes ;

a) Scholarship programme for Diploma and Degree courses

b) Educational Assistance/Student Aid – other requirements for education such as school/tuition fees,  uniforms, books etc for school going children

Disbursements of the LNMET funds

The mode of disbursement will be as follows;

1)Scholarship programme

a) LNMET will provide RM10, 000 per year per student to 3 students for duration the courses for 3 years upon the selection of the students, acceptance by LNMET of the selected students and the official receipt of request from AF for the scholarship

b) the scholarships to be awarded to financially disadvantaged students of Tamil,Malayalee and Telegu orgin.

2) Educational Assistance/Student Aid programmes –LNMET will evaluate and  consider funding specific projects based on  LNMET objectives on a case by case basis, as  and when submitted by AF.
